SATURDAY ACTIVITIES

NGO VISITS

To give to the needy is true charity. Our Chairman desires for extending his support to the orphanages, homes of children suffering with cerebral palsy and differently abled, homes of the aged people through St. Joseph’s விடிவெள்ளி, non-governmental organization. Also he wants to invoke the service mind of student community by encouraging visits to these homes. The world will praise and submit itself to the mind of the person who is able to give with affability, and to protect all who come to him.

Each semester for the past eight academic years more than 90 NGO homes, which include 75 orphanages, 10 old age homes and 7 CP children home in and around Chennai have been visited by our student volunteers. These visits gave our students to be aware of the existence of poor, downtrodden life style and acknowledge their own good fortune and create a sense of duty towards those less fortunate which is the need of the hour for our country’s development and make them responsible citizens.ṣ

Every year St. Joseph’s has sponsored around Rs. 80,00,000 and the student volunteers willing and whole heartedly utilized in an useful manner by offering the basic needs such as rice bags, groceries, toys, cloths, pillows, medicine etc., for the inmates. All the students, from first year to final year both UG and PG enthusiastically participated and mingled with inmates of home and spend their daytime with them share their happiness. They also spend their pocket money in useful manner by offering needy things.

We extend our helping hands to semmencherry primary health center by providing volunteers and food items during health camps. Awareness rallies were arranged along with Chennai corporation health department.

For the past eight years our college provides snacks in the evening to the students of Government Higher secondary School, Semmencherry. School attendance very much improved. In the SSLC and HSC board examination school results were improved. Computer training was given to the student. We renovated major areas of the school, water and sewage pipelines were erected with the cost of Rs.3 lakhs. Transport facilities are provided for schools in nearby area for their academic related visits.

At the end of each visit, the students’ eyes were filled with tears due to emotions. They were thankful to God and they counted the blessings showered on them. Students were also inspired by the knowledge the children shared during the visit, their experience. It makes the student realize the depth of blessing being showered on them by our God.
