IEEE Student Chapter


IEEE Student Branch (Branch Code: STB16181) formation was approved on 09th September 2014 and inauguration was held on 01st October 2014 at our premises by Dr.M.A.ATMANAND, Chairman, IEEE Madras section and Director, National Institute of Ocean Technology, Chennai. The objective of starting IEEE Student branch was to create awareness about the day to day technological developments and to make them to utilize the resources available in IEEE. And to make most of our student members involve themselves in publishing research papers and projects.Student Branch is started with 74 Student Members and 02 Professional Members and functioning with 232 Student Members and 08 Professional Members.

Achievements

  • InauguratedIEEE Power & EnergySociety by Dr. R. Sarathi,Chair, IEEE Power & Enegy Society, IEEE Madras Section and Professor, IIT Madras on 9thJanuary
  • Received fund of Rs. 35,603/- from IEEE to conduct IEEE activities in our campus on February
  • Received Certificate of Appreciation for being the Second Largest Student Branch of IEEE Madras Section with 232 members and cash award of Rs.3000/- from IEEE Madras Section in the year 2018.
  • Received Certificate of Appreciation and cash award of Rs.3000/- from IEEE Madras Section for organized activities towards the advancement of IEEE and Engineering Profession during the year 2018.
  • Received Certificate of Appreciation (Grade A) and cash award of Rs.3000/- from IEEE Madras Section for organized activities towards the advancement of IEEE and Engineering Profession during the year

Institution of Engineers


The Institution of Engineers (India) or IEI is the largest multidisciplinary professional body that encompasses 15 engineering disciplines and gives engineers a global platform from which to share professional interest. IEI has membership strength of more than 8.2 million. Established in 1920, with its headquarters at 8, Gokhale Road, Kolkata - 700020, IEI has served the engineering fraternity for over nine decades.

Privileges of Students’ Members

  1. Participation in various technical activities of the students' chapter.
  2. Participation in All India Technicians'/Students'
  3. Eligible to contest in the All India Students' Committee
  4. Access to library facilities at 122 State/Local Centres of the Institution across the
  5. Opportunity to meet fellow engineers for professional
  6. Reimbursement of travelling expenses to students selected for presentation of technical papers in Technicians'/Students' Convention.
  7. After passing the final year examination, student members are eligible for the following:
    1. Members of the students' chapter of Engineering Colleges, after passing the final B.E./B.Tech Examination, may become Associate Member of Institution. The membership form can be downloaded from IEI website ieindia.org under Membership tab.
    2. Student Members of engineering colleges/polytechnics are eligible to participate in Students’ Design Competition every year being organised by National Design and Research
    3. Associate Members are entitled to receive Chartered Engineer certificate on payment of requisite
    4. Eligible to pursue engineering degree in additional branch of their choice, with nominal fee and exemption to appear from Section A Examination.
    5. Entitled to receive IEI News and Technorama free of charge on their election as Associate
    6. Journals of IEI are available in soft copy through web and hard copy on concessional rate.
    7. Freedom to choose journals from 15 engineering
    8. Opportunities to gain and update knowledge and experience and access to information in a variety of engineering and technology disciplines through participation in seminars, symposia, conventions, workshops, etc at national and regional
    9. Access to know-how and ideas from Corporate Members of the Institution about on going R&D work in different engineering fields, use of latest technology, and demand of engineering jobs/services in the national and international level.
