Exploration begins for each student when they choose engineering as their career. All courses which are catered for various programs of engineering may not quench the thirst of a budding engineering student. To provide an opportunity for these technocrats to think and accomplish innovations many value added courses (VAC) and workshops are conducted. These VACs cultivate an urge amongst the students and position them to turn into flamboyant professional on the latest trends and rally their technical skills in advanced manner.

These courses offer our students an edge over others and have the following advantages:

  • Augments aptitude skills, technical knowledge, ability to think and innovate
  • Exposure to recent trends in the core field, augmenting the employability of the graduates
  • Strives to inculcate fundamental problem solving skills to encourage the students and make them understand the use of modern research tools

To compete with the recent trends of the current competitive world and to make sure that our savvies are technically stronger, VACs are made mandatory for all our students in their fourth and sixth semesters

Total number of students benefit: 4025

  • St. Joseph's College of Engineering: 2797 students
  • St. Joseph's Institute of Technology: 1228 students

VAC is an exclusive 54 hour program that extends over 6 days. This is conducted in addition to the regular working days. The students will be charged a nominal amount based on the courseopted. The students who have enrolled for the program, are divided into batches of 30 for better learning.

PROGRAMMING TRAINING COURSES

Learning is the key to knowledge and continuous learning is the constant objective of our institution. Working towards this objective, our college periodically conducts trainings, lectures and various other programs for the wellness of the students. In the present day scenario, all engineers need extensive computational skills irrespective of their engineering stream they are interested in. As most of the industries are keen on programming fundamentals, our college has arranged value added course on core languages as C, Advanced C Programming & Data Structures, Advance Data Structures and Algorithms, CODE Fit Training and JAVA for all II, III and IV year students through E-box, Skill Rack and Six Phrase. E-box is a Technology Enabled Active Learning and Assessment platform for technology and engineering domains.

The training session covers both theoretical concepts and practical sessions for 27 hours of 3 consecutive days. Auto evaluation of handson exercises at multiple levels has been carried out periodically and the students are calibrated based on their performance. Also, a training session on Career Development Skills is organized to provide the students with the self-understanding and necessary tools to inaugurate a lucrative career. It ensures the need for academic knowledge and career management skills to be successful at the end of his/her studies.

Total number of students benefit: 6082

  • St. Joseph's College of Engineering: 4198 students
  • St. Joseph's Institute of Technology: 1884 students

Quality Improvement Cell

QIC of our institutions, in collaboration with IIT Bombay and Anna University, is conducting an online workshop that covers Free Online Software Source (FOSS) such as Latex, Java, C/C++, Open foam, Scilab, PHP, Python, etc. This academic year, students under went the workshop on different domain languages. Following the workshop, students are provided with study materials to help them in facing 45-minute objective type online test. Students cleared the online test and achieved e-IIT Certificate from IIT Bombay. These workshops create awareness and interest among the students in learning the new software.

Total number of students benefit: 5115

  • St. Joseph's College of Engineering: 3231 students
  • St. Joseph's Institute of Technology: 1884 students

Technical Workshop

To have continuous improvement in technical expertise student are introduced with current trend technology through many workshops in association with reputed industries. It is also conducted through various student chapterorganizations of the institution to impart necessary skills. This helps the students for better transition from an engineering aspirant to an engineering professional. These workshops enhance the theoretical concepts learnt by students with hands on real-world sessions as well as provide an outline for many developing technologies that are not included in the course syllabus.

Some of the workshops conducted by different departments for their students this academic year are:

  • Design of SMPS
  • Electrical Appliances in IoT
  • PLC, SCADA
  • ASPEN PLUS
  • Automation- Internet of Things (IoT) using Raspberry Pi
  • Robotics with Arduino and NodeMCU
  • Home Automation
  • Cyber Security
  • Machine Learning techniques using Raspberry Pi
