THE GNU/LINUX USER’S GROUP (GLUG) CLUB
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, in collaboration
with the GLUG Club, organized a seminar titled “Open-Source AI in
Computer Vision” on 9th April, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the
Smart Classroom, Department of CSE, St. Joseph’s Institute of
Technology, Chennai. The session was attended by 28 members of the
GLUG Club and was coordinated by Dr. Sai Ramesh, Dr. Adlin Sheeba, and
Dr. Angel Petricia V. Mr. Brandon M Samuel, a III-year student from the
CSE department, served as the facilitator. The seminar began with an
insightful introduction to the significance of open-source AI in computer
vision, with a focus on popular libraries such as OpenCV and Torch
Vision. Participants explored the technical foundations, comparative
aspects, and implementation challenges of these tools, followed by a
discussion on their real-world applications and emerging trends. A
hands-on session enabled attendees to install the libraries and work on a
basic animal detection project, enhancing their practical understanding.
The event concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, during which
participants discussed applications in face detection, biometrics, and
medical image processing. The session successfully deepened students’
understanding of image processing techniques and the broad scope of
computer vision, while inspiring further exploration in this rapidly
evolving field.
