In honor of its 25th Anniversary, St. Joseph’s Group of Institutions proudly inaugurated the St. Joseph’s Defence Academy, a visionary initiative to prepare students for service in the three branches of the Indian Armed Forces.

 Our Mission

The Defence Academy is dedicated to nurturing brave minds ready to make greater sacrifices for the safety and sovereignty of the nation. It:

  • Instills discipline, determination, and dedication, forming the foundation for students to become robust, responsible, and enlightened leaders

  • Cultivates fierce competitiveness through a strong academic foundation, quality teaching, and individualized attention

  • Organizes seminars and workshops led by Defence officers and soft skills experts, guiding aspirants in the ways of a disciplined life

Through structured training and mentorship, the academy empowers students to pursue careers in the Army, Navy, and Air Force, while fostering values of patriotism, resilience, and leadership.

Seminars & Workshops – Preparing Aspirants for a Career in Defence Services

To equip students for opportunities in the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Paramilitary Forces, the St. Joseph’s Defence Academy, in collaboration with the management, has organized a series of impactful seminars and workshops:

Key Events and Milestones

  • 04 August 2018: Mr. V. Nanda Kumar, IRS, Additional Commissioner, Income Tax Department, and Lt. Esan, Training Commander, along with student candidates selected through the SSB exam, shared their experiences with aspirants and addressed their queries. Parents of selected candidates also participated, offering valuable insights.

  • 05 March 2019: Mr. Surendren, Director of Defence Academy, Chennai, visited our campus and provided detailed information on upcoming career opportunities. He emphasized the role of engineers in Defence Services, inspiring technical students to explore this path.

  • 28 August 2019: The official inauguration of the St. Joseph’s Defence Officers Academy was held, graced by Dr. Sylendra Babu C., IPS, Director General of Police (Railways), and Lt. Esan, Training Commander, Centre for Career and Uniform Services, Coimbatore. Over 1,000 aspiring students attended the ceremony and interacted with the distinguished guests.

  • 04 September 2019: A screening test was conducted to identify deserving candidates for Defence training. The test assessed students in verbal ability, aptitude, and general awareness, with equal weightage across all categories. Shortlisted students were selected based on performance.

  • 04 October 2019: Lt. Esan and his team conducted the second round of interviews for shortlisted aspirants. Students were divided into 13 batches of 15 each and participated in group discussions on assigned topics. At the end of each session, Lt. Esan provided constructive feedback and guidance to help students improve.

Impact

Over 450 students from St. Joseph’s Group of Institutions have been trained and equipped to pursue careers across various levels and categories of Defence Services. These initiatives reflect our commitment to nurturing disciplined, determined, and duty-bound leaders for the nation.

Achievements

We are proud to announce that Ms. Kreeshma R, a distinguished student from the 2014–2018 batch of the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, has been selected as Sub-Lieutenant in the Aviation Specialization – Executive Branch of the Indian Navy.

She officially joined the Indian Naval Academy on 24th December 2018, marking a significant milestone in her journey of service and excellence.

We are delighted to share that Ms. Tamizhvani M, a distinguished alumna from the 2015–2019 batch of the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, has been selected as a Flying Officer – Pilot in the Indian Air Force.
