TECH TALK
Placement Empowerment Program (PEP) - VLSI Design Center at St. Joseph’s
Group of Institutions organized a remarkable tech talk 25/1/2025 featuring Mr.
Shaik Aleem Ur Rehaman, Silicon Engineer at Microsoft (Ex-AMD and INTEL)
with over a decade of experience in the semiconductor industry. The event
witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 150 VLSI aspirants, showcasing
a diverse and eager group of future engineers united by their passion for
semiconductor technology. Mr. Rehman began the session by explaining the
fundamental differences between ASICs and FPGAs, highlighting their unique
advantages and challenges. His use of relatable examples and real-world
analogies made even the most complex concepts easy to understand. He
discussed how innovation in chip design impacts everyday technologies, diving
into the opportunities in open-source architectures like RISC-V and MIPS that
foster experimentation and creativity compared to proprietary architectures
like x86 and ARM. His insights into AI-based chips and their applications in
fields like space exploration, blockchain, and gaming were both inspiring and
thought-provoking. This session was a valuable resource of knowledge,
shedding light on future semiconductor technologies and career paths in ASIC
design. It bridged the gap between academia and industry, fostering a culture
of practical learning and real-world application.
