Student Achievements
The Department of Mathematics at St. Joseph’s Institute of Technology, Chennai
proudly announces a remarkable innovation by its young researchers. A patent titled
“An AI-Based Multilingual Agricultural Advisory and Disease Detection System with
Multi-Channel Farmer Communication” has been published in April 2026.
This pioneering work was developed by Mr. Dharshan Devaraj J and Mr. Abdul Malik
Wafaran G H, under the guidance of Dr. R. Prabakaran, Assistant Professor, Department
of Mathematics. The invention addresses the challenges faced by farmers, particularly
those with limited literacy, by integrating artificial intelligence with multilingual
communication tools.
The system leverages real-time environmental data—such as soil parameters, moisture,
temperature, and rainfall—within a centralized AI framework. It provides crop
recommendations, detects plant diseases through leaf image analysis, and delivers
advisory support via adaptive accessibility features, multilingual text, symbol-based
guidance, and low-bandwidth communication channels.
This innovation stands out for its inclusivity, scalability, and potential to transform
agricultural practices by empowering farmers with accessible, technology-driven
solutions. The achievement reflects the institute’s commitment to fostering student
research and industry-relevant problem solving.
